The Opportunity: 
   

The Financial Post is hiring two reporters to expand our coverage of the Canadian business landscape. The successful candidates will join our dynamic team in delivering insightful breaking news and in-depth analysis of a sector of the economy that is of vital interest to Canadians. 

The Financial Post is Canada’s leading business news brand and serves the National Post and Postmedia, Canada's largest news chain, which includes the Vancouver Sun, Calgary Herald, Edmonton Journal, Ottawa Citizen and Montreal Gazette.  

What you’ll do:

• Cover all aspects of the Financial Post, cultivate sources, find stories buried in documents and break news on tight deadlines.
• Write in a clear, concise and engaging style.
• Come up with story ideas, identify trending topics and quickly turn them into compelling multimedia content.
• Research and collect information from both traditional and non-traditional sources.
• Sift through data and online resources.
• Contribute to daily news file, features and explanatory work.

Who you are:

• You have 3+ years of reporting experience, preferably in business journalism.
• Have knowledge of or a willingness to learn about one or more of the following coverage areas: financial services, economics, energy, the food system or investing   
• Demonstrated ability to identify trends and drivers behind the news, allowing you to explain not just what is happening, but why — and what it means  
• Demonstrated ability to write effectively in different formats, from breaking news to explanatory work to long-form features.  
• Canadian Securities Course is an asset   
• Experience with data analysis is an asset  
• Video or podcast experience is an asset
