POSITION SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for the intake and set-up of life and disability claims on management systems, and follow-up contact with claimants, employers, health care providers, and other service providers. This position supports the Life and Disability Management team through day-to-day administrative functions and offers an excellent opportunity to take your career in an exciting and rewarding direction.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages benefit application requests for Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Early Intervention, Salary Continuance, Waiver of Premium, Critical Illness, and Life Claims
  • Responds to claim inquiries, compose and send correspondence, request and collect information from stakeholders, and accurately update confidential claimant information
  • Calculates and enters life and disability benefit payments and expense invoices
  • Coordinates overpayment recovery plans and maintains repayment records
  • Produces Excel based reports, performs data verification, and maintains databases, and completes any necessary data corrections
  • Other administrative duties to support the department including triage and distribution of incoming faxes and emails, file prints, attachment audits, file documentation, and coordinating appeal panel meetings
  • Manages ongoing total and permanent disability claims
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

 

  • Dedicated to the principles of exceptional service; committed to responding to, anticipating, and addressing internal and external customer needs

 

  • Organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage and prioritize several activities on an ongoing basis, work in a fasted environment with changing priorities and capable of working under the pressure of deadlines
  • Demonstrated proficiency in using Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) and Adobe and aptitude for learning additional industry-related software and applications
  • Above average mathematical and reporting skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to remain flexible, work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Ability to follow documented procedures, and work efficiently and accurately within prescribed performance standards
  • Preference will be given to applicants who have completed some post-secondary education, an equivalent combination of education and 1 - 2 years’ experience in an office environment may be considered
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and/or a background in medical administration, group insurance benefits or case management is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable Privacy Legislation and related guidelines is considered an asset.
