Position summary

The Director, Finance is responsible for routine and non-routine processes within OmniaBio’s accounting, financial reporting, financial analytics and compliance framework. As a member of the senior management team, the Director, Finance works closely with the executive team and Board of Directors supporting OmniaBio’s strategic planning, risk management and performance evaluation activities. The Director, Finance leads day-to-day finance operations, directly supervises the finance team (expected to grow to over time), liaises with the shared services finance and procurement teams at CCRM, and has functional responsibility over financial accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking/treasury. The Director, Finance directs the planning, organization and implementation of organization-wide procedures for financial reporting and internal controls. As OmniaBio roles out new financial systems, including an ERP system appropriate for a CDMO, the Director, Finance will lead the transition to ensure effective and efficient implementation for finance-related applications. The successful candidate will be a well-organized individual who can set and manage various stakeholders’ expectations and is able to drive continuous improvements in a fast-paced environment.


Key responsibilities

The employee’s services include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Direct the preparation, management and monitoring of operating and capital budgets and re-forecasts;
  • Complete quarterly financial reporting to the Board of Directors;
  • Prepare monthly financial reports (actual vs. budget) for business units and enterprise-wide with insightful analysis for OmniaBio and senior management within defined reporting timelines; liaising with key stakeholders for input as necessary during the process;
  • Provide finance-related support services to the business units and departments at OmniaBio in support of their business objectives;
  • Manage the timely and accurate completion of routine and ad-hoc regulatory, government, granting agency, or other stakeholder reporting, as required;
  • Manage the annual financial statement process and external audit, including drafting of financial statements and review of all audit schedules and samples of documents selected for testing;
  • Refine and document processes around month-end cycle to reduce time to close;
  • Define and develop additional financial reporting and analytics required by stakeholders, including capital investment expenditures, and customer project costs and profitability;
  • Maintain the integrity and efficiency of OmniaBio’s general ledger structure. Add to and edit charts of accounts to support reporting requirements and tracking of costs and financial performance;
  • Design and optimize accounting and resource structure reflecting activities, reporting obligations and tax considerations;
  • Review and advise on all required customer invoicing as required; oversee the accounts receivable function;
  • Review the input of purchase invoices into the system to ensure accuracy, validity, completeness and timeliness; oversee the accounts payable function;
  • Manage and control banking and treasury activities at OmniaBio and portfolio companies. Make or review bank deposits and ensure posting of all cash transactions. Prepare or review a weekly cash flow forecast and working with corporate bankers to recommend transfers to and from investment accounts to ensure optimal use of funds;
  • Organize periodic inventory counts and provide guidance to inventory/lab managers, as needed; Ensure proper accounting for inventory, if material;
  • Review transactions and balances in the capital assets sub-ledger, including calculation and posting of monthly amortization, write-off assets on disposition;
  • Review and submit semi-monthly (or bi-weekly) payroll;
  • Review commodity tax (HST) returns and related remittances; correspond with CRA;
  • Review or prepare/post month-end accruals and adjusting entries in accordance with GAAP;
  • Review bank and other account reconciliations;
  • Act as a key liaison with OmniaBio’s IT, payroll, HR and employee benefits service providers;
  • Maintain finance team by supporting recruiting, selecting, orienting, and on-boarding of employees.
  • Provide training, development, and performance feedback to Finance staff;
  • Assess financial risks and risk mitigation; design and document accounting policies, processes and internal controls;
  • Ensure proper electronic and paper file management, including corporate agreements;
  • Oversee the accounting and reporting for employee stock options or other incentive plans and company’s capitalization table;
  • Liaise with finance staff assigned to any subsidiary entities, ensuring reporting needs met for consolidation activities;
  • Assist the CFO in support of corporate finance and government grant activities;
  • Assist in vendor and tool selection, design and optimize finance and accounting software platform (ERP) to enable scalable and efficient delivery of services to OmniaBio;
  • Working with CFO and procurement management, design and plan strategies and structure for effective purchasing processes including buying group alliances to realize cost savings through purchasing power advantages; Execute on the strategies by developing an operational plan;
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional institute activities.
  • Other finance and business support activities, as required.



  • Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting discipline
  • Designated CPA, or compensating experience
  • 10+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, preferably within a CDMO or life sciences organization, with increasing levels of responsibility
  • 7+ years of supervisory experience
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience with implementation and operationalization of ERP systems
