Position Summary:

 

This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations and oversees operations at the site. The position is responsible for all aspects of resident care, safety and quality of life experience at the site.  This will include leading and supporting the care team to consistently deliver high quality, resident centered care, ensuring that care is compliant with all governing standards and regulations, managing the site operational budget within funded activity, ensuring that contracted service providers are fulfilling their obligations and ensuring that operational objectives and plans are effectively implemented.

 

Primary Role and Responsibility:

 

  1. Demonstrates a participative and collaborative approach to management that embodies the mission and values of the Covenant family.
      1. Ensures staff and volunteers understand the vision and goals of the site and the organization's mission, vision and values
      2. Sets attainable goals and provides regular, meaningful feedback that aligns with the operational plan while ensuring staff to work to their full scope, focus on their strengths, overcome obstacles and take accountability
      3. Creates a working environment where employees feel empowered and supported.
      4. Ensures that all staff and volunteers receive proper orientation and regular feedback and are provided with opportunities for professional development and growth
      5. Actively supports successful learning and sustainable changes at the point-of-care level
      6. Encourages transparent dialogue and the expression of ideas and opinions
      7. Models collaboration, cooperation and teamwork that embraces diversity and inclusion

 

  1. Develops and implements work plans aligned with the goals and priorities defined by the Senior Director of Operations.
      1. Consistently reviews the clinical care and services provided, monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), identifies gaps and opportunities and makes care and service decisions aimed at improving performance
      2. Maintains an ongoing dialogue with supervisor to provide feedback, share ideas, seek advice, report on progress and problems and make recommendations to resolve issues outside the scope of the position
      3. Makes evidence-informed decisions in a manner consistent with organizational values to yield safe resident centered service
      4. Evaluates and provides feedback on new initiatives to ensure resident needs will continue o be met or exceeded
      5. Ensures that contracted service providers are fulfilling their obligations, e.g., hospitality service providers

 

  1. Consistently strives to meet or exceed all relevant quality and safety performance standards and expectations at the site level.
      1. Ensures site compliance with all legislation, contract agreements, policies and procedures and standards
      2. Alerts the Senior Director of Operations to significant incidents, trends and risks that may have an impact and cannot be dealt with effectively at the site level
      3. Monitors and investigates incident reports and manages resident and/or family complaints
      4. Maintains an awareness of discipline specific and/or, evidence-based practice standards and leverages that knowledge to improve quality and safety for the site
      5. Seeks opportunities to take part in relevant research projects that could improve quality and service and be beneficial to residents and their families

 

  1. Highly interactive and collaborative with internal and external partners in order to provide excellence in care and service.
      1. Visible and available to family members and residents to promote ongoing communication and enhance capacity and effectiveness in advocating for residents to claim their voice
      2. Establishes and maintains an effective resident and family council
      3. Contributes and shares expertise with other programs and agencies throughout the zone and province
      4. Represents Covenant Care in the community at every opportunity
      5. Establishes, implements and monitors goals and objectives in co-ordination with all other departments and services in the organization
      6. Participates in contract negotiations as requested or when required
      7. Manages investigation and disciplinary processes in partnership with Human Resources
      8. Fosters and builds productive and positive working environments for volunteers to ensure an integrated approach to the delivery of care and services

 

  1. Exercises responsible stewardship and successfully manages the site operational budget within funded activity.
      1. Adheres to guidelines and delegated authority
      2. Monitors expenditures and develops effective strategies to maintain the budget
      3. Maintains a working knowledge of all contracts in place within the programs and applies these in accordance with Covenant Care principles
      4. Identifies internal reallocation opportunities and realigns resources within funding parameters without affecting quality of care and the health and safety of staff
      5. Provides analysis of past fiscal performance for use in annual budget preparation
      6. Reports on budget variances and takes action to mitigate future variances
      7. Prioritizes any budget and site equipment needs and contributes to the preparation of the annual budget
      8. Demonstrates accountability in utilizing department materials and resources

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. Formal Education
      1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) is required
      2. Active College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) registration
      3. Equivalencies may be considered

 

  1. Experience
      1. Must have three to five years' directly related experience in a continuing care setting and the proven ability to effectively oversee all operations and services at the site level

 

  1. Special Knowledge & Skills
      1. Must have well developed interpersonal skills and the proven ability to use excellent professional judgment and function in the role of mentor, leaders and role model to staff
      2. Equivalencies may be considered
