About the Position:

Supervises and coordinates day-to-day maintenance and support of buildings, grounds and facilities systems. Oversee staff installing, inspecting, repairing, and maintaining building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, safety, and waste management. Coordinate work to be completed by contractors and skilled trades.

Provide a safe and positive work environment and ensure each employee is fully trained.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Upgrading factory equipment and tools as needed to improve the speed, efficiency, ergonomics and safety of factory operations.
  • Manage distribution and tracking of hand tools
  • Accomplish facilities results by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, appraising job results, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, and enforcing systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Determine priorities, set tasks, direct workflow, outline materials methods, and provide direction for facilities personnel that meet the business plan and work force utilization requirements.
  • Maintains safe and clean work environment by educating and directing personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, resources, maintains compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications and content.
  • Mediates, investigates, and or resolves employee issues and grievances with guidance and help of the HR department
  • Initiate and foster a spirit of cooperation within and between departments.
  • Train and mentors employees as well as facilitate employee development.
  • Ensure compliance with Haakon Quality Standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement efforts with the team and promote healthy, respectful communications.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Conducts inspections to ensure that assigned facilities are properly maintained.
  • Coordinates, assigns, and maintains work schedules and assignments for custodial and labor and trades employees to ensure adequate coverage of designated work areas.
  • Establish preventative maintenance schedules for all factory equipment and machinery, including but not limited to sheet metal brake presses, folders, shears, punch presses, laser cutters and buffering stations.
  • Inspects and evaluates facility construction and renovation projects.
  • Confirms work specifications with building codes.
  • Interprets and maintains physical plant in compliance with applicable building, health, safety, fire and environmental codes and regulations; initiates required corrective action.
  • Maintains complete inventory of equipment; develops, implements, and monitors preventative maintenance schedules to ensure maximum longevity of equipment; and determines replacement, repair, and maintenance needs.
  • Track equipment documents, maintenance schedules and maintenance records in MPulse maintenance management software

  • Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the facilities management service.
  • Experience in facilities management, maintenance and custodial techniques.
  • Strong ability to multitask and plan work.
  • Make independent decisions.
  • Anticipate needs without instruction.
  • Decipher and act on ambiguous instructions.
  • Strong written and oral skills, and be able to communicate when required, using technical terms.
  • Knowledge of windows operating system and/or ability to learn.
  • Ability to learn new and unfamiliar software.
  • Comprehensive understanding and interpretation of blueprints.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, ethics and leadership skills within a team environment.
  • Work at a high pace while maintaining high level of detail and highly organized.
  • Pivot tasks when downtime occurs.
  • Driver of change management and process improvement with visible and measurable results.
  • High aptitude for solving problems with limited information.
  • In depth understanding of machinery in order to asses, troubleshoot repairs and lifespans of equipment.

 

Supervisory Skills

The maintenance supervisor is responsible for directing and training employees performing facilities maintenance and/or work. They develop employees who work from complex source documents and verbal instruction with a minimum of supervision that are able to apply considerable independent judgment in planning work procedures.

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Recommends recognition, promotions, or disciplinary actions based on employee performance. Provides recommendation for recognition, promotion, or disciplinary action for employees based on merit
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities for all departments when needed.

 

Education and Work Experience

 

  • 5-10 years of experience leading a team, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • At least 3 years of manufacturing experience
  • Post-secondary education in mechanical, or manufacturing fields
  • Formal leadership training is an asset
