Damage Prevention Technician
Infrastructure Services Department
(Eighteen-month contract position, 40 hours per week)
The Town of Orangeville has an eighteen (18) month contract opportunity available for the position of Damage Prevention Technician. Reporting to the Supervisor, Water Works, this position will be locating Town owned underground utilities in a prescribed area, acting as a Town representative to contractors excavating near high-value Town infrastructure, and investigating reports of damaged infrastructure due to excavation activities.
Job Duties:
- Conducting utility locates for Town owned infrastructure; using Town owned software and equipment to mark the requested location and creating drawings.
- Continual improvement of the Town’s ARC GIS Collector map systems by the adjustment or updating of Town owned infrastructure assets; relaying relevant deficiencies to the appropriate staff for corrections and adding new assets as required.
- Conducting site visits with contractors as a Town representative as requested; investigating reports of damaged infrastructure; assisting the managing of Road Cut/Occupancy Permit.
- As required, assisting Water Works staff in the operation of the Drinking Water System; responding to Infrastructure Services related public enquiries; performing water curb stop shut off tests and perform water off and on requests; assisting in Water, Wastewater and Stormwater infrastructure repair activities; assisting the Public Works Division in winter control operations including operations of road, sidewalk and boulevard maintenance.
- Participating in ongoing Training and Development and ensures all mandatory requirements are met and maintained.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School Diploma
- Three (3) year college diploma in Engineering, Environment, or related field is considered an asset
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in damage prevention or utility locating, preferably in a municipal environment
- Geographic Information Systems Professional certification
- ORCGA DPT 100
- Traffic Control/Book 7 Training
- Valid Class G Ontario driver’s licence
- Valid Class DZ Ontario driver’s licence in good stilling or willing to achieve in one (1) year is preferred
- Experience with locating equipment, geographic information systems, maps, and engineering as built drawings
- Experience using computers including Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
Hourly Range: $29.81 to $34.87 Band 6 on the Town’s 2023 Pay Grid, plus a contract benefits package.
