Junior Help Desk Technician

Corporate Services Department

(Full-time position, 35 hours per week)


The Town of Orangeville has a full-time opportunity available for the position of Junior Help Desk Technician. Reporting to the Manager, Information Technology, this position will offer support and technical assistance to internal staff who use software, hardware, or other computer systems and need assistance completing troubleshooting problems through diagnostic tests and remote access to their computers.


Job Duties:

  • Serving as the first point of contact for Town staff seeking technical assistance over the phone or email; providing technical assistance to queries via chat, email or phone; diagnosing system errors which could include troubleshooting and installing systems; remotely accessing hardware or software for all Town staff.
  • Writing, editing, and revising training manuals for new and updated software and hardware.
  • Resolving the concerns with networks and other computer systems; assisting users in security awareness, training for mobile, workstation and online accounts; assisting to manage end user accounts for subscription systems.
  • Maintaining software and hardware assets through internal systems; escalating concerns to the Application Support Analyst or the System Administrator for support internally or externally to find solutions.
  • Other duties as assigned.



  • College Diploma in Information Technology, or a related course of study.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year of work experience in a help desk environment.
  • Previous experience using Microsoft Office Applications and PC hardware devices and tablets.
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Client Operating Systems (Windows 10 and 11).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose technology devices; familiarity with both PC and Apple hardware and software.
  • Strong team player and ability to convey technical knowledge to others; strong interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.


The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check, in accordance with the duties of this position.


Salary Range: $50,632.94 to $59,267.43 Band 5 on the Town’s 2023 Pay Grid, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
