The Accounting Manager will play a key role on a dynamic and committed team, where each individual’s contribution has a direct impact on the success of the Pethealth Group of Companies (“the Company”).
Reporting to the Financial Controller, and based in our corporate headquarters in Oakville, ON, the Accounting Manager will have the opportunity to provide a broad range of accounting support and analyses in a fast-paced organization.
Job Duties/Responsibilities:
- Personnel management and development of the accounting & finance team (“the team”), including performance evaluation and coaching
- Working with Human Resources on recruitment and selection of new staff as necessary
- Reviewing of all accounting entries, bank reconciliations and other general ledger account reconciliations
- Analyzing current accounting practices and processes. Make recommendations and implementing efficiencies within the team and the business to ensuring integrity of the general ledgers
- Assist with external and regulatory reviews, audits and examinations when needed and complete requested materials
- Document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility and for other businesses within the Company
- Managing escalations relating to billing and collections
- Provide assistance to the planning & analysis function and the tax function, when needed
- Performing various ad hoc financial and operational analyses and contributing to department and organization special projects as assigned
- Other duties as allocated
Education/Experience:
- University degree with a focus on accounting & finance and a CPA designation
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced skills in MS Excel
- 6 to 8 years of full cycle accounting experience with responsibilities for the production of consolidated financial statements with subsidiaries in multiple countries
- Adequate working experience with International Financial Reporting Standards
- Managed an accounting team of minimum five people
Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability for improving and streamlining accounting processes
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and financial reporting. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics and OneStream preferred
- Fair understanding and appreciation for foreign exchange risks and exposures
- Been through a system conversion and experience in acceptance testing methodologies
- Strong verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask, work independently and as part of a team in a highly deadline driven environment
- Strong pro-active characteristics
- Ability to work with other functional teams including with business leaders as a finance support
- Strong believer of continuous improvement with an ability to effect process or cultural changes
- Good working knowledge of control over financial reporting (e.g. SOX) framework
- Flexible in work schedule to meet the demands of various reporting cycles
