Payroll Clerk
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately calculate and process employees' salaries, wages, bonuses, commissions, and deductions based on approved timesheets, attendance records, and other relevant data.
- Track and record overtime, paid time off, sick leave, and other absences for employees in compliance with British Columbia's labor laws and company policies.
- Enter payroll-related information into the company's payroll system or software, ensuring that all details are entered correctly and promptly.
- Process and verify employee expense reports related to project travel, client meetings, and other business expenses, ensuring compliance with expense reimbursement policies.
- Accurately calculate and deduct payroll taxes, retirement contributions, and other authorized deductions, considering any specific industry related deductions or tax benefits.
- Collaborate with project managers and team leads to obtain accurate time records for billable and non-billable hours worked on various projects.
- Process and verify employee expense reports related to project travel, client meetings, and other business expenses, ensuring compliance with expense reimbursement policies.
- Stay updated on industry-specific labor laws, industry standards, and payroll best practices to ensure full compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Allocate labor costs accurately to different projects for billing purposes, maintaining precise project cost accounting records.
- Maintain organized and confidential payroll records, employee data, project details, and other relevant documentation for audits and reporting.
- Collaborate with HR to process payroll for new hires, including setting up payroll accounts and processing exit payroll for terminated employees.
- Utilize specialized industry software or tools for project tracking, billing, and payroll processing, ensuring data accuracy and security.
- Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- A diploma or equivalent in Human Resources or Payroll is considered an asset.
- Previous experience as a Payroll Clerk in an engineering consulting firm or a similar industry is highly preferred.
- Working towards or having a PCP is an asset.
- Having experience with Ceridian/Dayforce is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in using payroll software and MS Office applications, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication skills to interact with all professionals and resolve payroll-related inquiries.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address payroll discrepancies and resolve issues efficiently while adhering to legal requirements.
- Someone that takes the initiative and actively contributes to the company’s success, employee satisfaction.
- Excellent time management skill is highly important.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
