SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

 

Reporting to the Manager of Product Development, we’re looking for an experienced and passionate Product Developer who will be responsible for the development of new products and product improvements that meet customers, sales, financial, regulatory, quality, engineering and operational expectations. The candidate will take initiative to ensure all project deliverables are met throughout the development process.

 

THE MANDATE:

  • Design right from the start formulations that meet customer expectation by selecting raw materials that meet cost, Regulatory, supply chain and processing parameters
  • Understand and follow the product innovation and renovation process from concept through commercialization
  • Execute technical development and testing of food products from concept approval, ingredient selection, formulation creation and then successfully following up from bench development, shelf life, sensory testing, line trials, packing and process steps
  • Provide technical support to processors, customers and production by preparing finished product samples, attending meetings, trials and presentations and other activities that support business objectives
  • Diligent recording and maintenance of formulations, ingredient documentation, processes, shelf life, and testing. When required: statistical analysis of data, report writing, and verbally communicating findings in presentations and meetings
  • Work collaboratively with Sales Account Managers and customers, Marketing, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, Procurement and suppliers, Engineering and Operations teams in delivering of business objectives.
  • Investigate and approve alternate ingredients, substitutions and product revisions which maintain product integrity and may assist in daily problem solving of quality, material reliability for production line and/or Operational challenges
  • Routinely provide technical direction and guidance to junior teammate as well as collaborative input to technical development peers


THE CANDIDATE:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or related discipline
  • 5+ years prior experience within the food processing/industry
  • Comfort in a manufacturing facility; physical work is required and candidates should be able to stand for prolonged periods of time when required for trials
  • Strong ingredient and processing knowledge related to food starches, gums, clean label alternatives related to sauces, fillings, and nutritional bar layers
  • Strong technical skills and experience in new product design/development, and demonstrates ability to deliver objectives within demanding timeline
  • Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
  • Self starter who enjoys taking initiative and solving problems
  • Meticulous attention to details and accuracy of work
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and organize multiple concurrent projects
  • Passionate about continuous learning
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite of programs and comfort learning new systems
