  AIRPORT FLIGHT LINE TECHNICIAN

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Airport Superintendent, ensures good customer relations with airport users and participates in the safe and efficient operation of the airport in accordance with government regulations, airport policies and procedures and City of St. Thomas policies. Assist in the operation and maintenance of the St. Thomas Municipal Airport in the absence of the Superintendent.

MAJOR TASKS:


Provides excellent public relations, in person, on phone and through electronic  communication, to customers of the airport, adjacent property owners, city employees, government officials, travelling public and public in general while ensuring airport procedures, including Emergency Procedures are complied with.


Works in accordance with regulations, standards and procedures of the airport including the Safety Management System and with Transport Canada, and the use of pyrotechnics, marshalling of aircraft, and provides
support and assistance with Emergency protocols, as required.

 

Assists with fuel quality checks: daily clear brights, fuel receiving including FSSI test, specific density test, clear and bright test, volume confirmation, take dips and totals: reconciliation, and complete fuel data entries.


Completes runway inspections including winter runway condition reporting through SNOWIZ, FOD  control, windsocks, lighting systems, wildlife program,  snow removal, checking fences and reporting on all of the above.


Acts as an airside escort providing escort across runways for contractors or during construction or testing.


Assists with radio communications providing information to arriving and departing aircraft when available including wind speed, direction, altimeter settings, advise of known traffic in circuit, and any irregularities to airport operations that may impact safety

Arranges hotel accommodations, car rentals, taxis, assists flight crew, passengers, luggage,  arranges fuel and catering for pilots and passengers and aircraft grooming as required.

Operates fuel truck to refuel aircraft as necessary.

Provides aircraft assistance as necessary including push back and towing of aircraft into and out of hangar, supplies auxiliary power to complex aircraft, and provides lavatory service to aircraft.

Receives and processes cash and electronic payments such as credit cards.

Conducts building and grounds maintenance, including cleaning hangar floor as required.

This position must take responsibility for personal health and safety insofar as he or she is able under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations. A worker must:

 

Work in compliance with the provisions of the Act, the regulations and City policies.   
Must use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that the City requires to be used or worn.
Report to his or her supervisor the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which the worker is aware and which may endanger himself, herself or another worker.
Report to his or her supervisor any contravention of the Act, the regulations or the existence of any hazard of which he or she knows.

This position shall not:

Remove or make ineffective any protective device required by regulations or by the City, without providing an adequate temporary protective device and when the need for removing or making ineffective the protective device has ceased, the protective device shall be replaced immediately.

Use or operate any equipment, machine, device or thing or work in a manner that may endanger himself, herself or any other worker.
Engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct.  

 

Performs other such related duties as may be assigned.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Grade 12 Secondary School Graduation Diploma or equivalent.  Must possess or obtain a Restricted Radio Operator’s Licence.  Flight training, pilot’s licence, previous experience working at a Municipal Airport and knowledge of a Safety Management System Plan and emergency procedures is considered an asset.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT – May be required to work outside and beyond the normal hours of work, including weekends and stat holidays.  Must have a valid Class 'DZ' Ontario Drivers' licence.  The use of a privately owned vehicle may be required.

 

Remuneration:  $19.60 per hour.
