How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Reporting to the Supervisor, Lake St. George Field Centre, the Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of education programs within schools, TRCA facilities and designated outdoor spaces.
The position demands and individual with strong facilitation abilities. They are expected to provide superior customer services to education stakeholders, Expectations outside of formal education delivery can include the support for summer camps, youth volunteer programs and specialized audience programming.
- Deliver high quality, curriculum linked, and experiential outdoor education lessons to school groups attending the Lake St. George Field Centre (day or evening programs).
- Monitor, track and ensure education programming reflects current education curriculum standards, school board policies and teacher/school expectations.
- Deliver specialized programs such as Specialist High School Major and Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship programs.
- With direction and guidance from the Supervisor, research and develop new programs, refine and enhance existing Lake St. George education lessons and public programs that support TRCA strategic plan and corporate objectives.
- Work with other members of the teaching team to update and enhance lesson plans and delivery options and activities.
- Maintain and improve program materials and equipment. Manage equipment/supply inventories, replaces, repairs or purchases equipment for programs.
- Support facility and customer services responsibilities such as facilitating meal services and light cleaning.
- Support all camps and camp-related programming. This includes developing camp programming, supporting interns and volunteers and reviewing camp documents.
- Develop and deliver themed summer, March Break and winter camps.
- Travel across York and Durham Regions to deliver in-school educational, curriculum linked programs as needed.
What will you need to succeed:
- Post-secondary degree in Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation, History, Geography or other related degree.
- Bachelor of Education or Ontario College of Teachers certification.
- 2 years teaching experience within a school, camp, or outdoor education centre capacity.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- Valid G class driver’s license and access to a vehicle on a daily basis.
- Excellent communication skills in all modes (written, verbal, email, etc.).
- Classroom management skills in diverse environments.
- Teaching skills with diverse audiences.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Waterfront experience and qualifications are considered an asset.
