How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:

The Park Attendant is responsible for maintaining TRCA lands, trails, grounds, and gardens. The Park Attendant will carry out various land management tasks such as work order mitigation, property inventory and audits, trail inventory and audits, trail infrastructure maintenance, and landscaping tasks. The position assists with annual assessment and monitoring responsibilities and works in collaboration with TRCA staff to identify and monitor land boundary encroachment issues, trespass and illegal use issues, trail conditions, and the state of trail infrastructure.

 

This position performs general customer service duties in support of providing an excellent customer service experience for all TRCA patrons.


Major Responsibilities:

Perform the following tasks under general supervision:

  • Perform trail, parking lot and boundary inspections to audit site conditions and infrastructure inventories.
  • Identify, manage, and report hazardous site conditions, and ensure that staff and visitors do not encounter unsafe areas, materials, or equipment.
  • Carry out various facility maintenance tasks including but not limited to:
    • Landscaping and grounds maintenance (mowing, trimming, removal of debris, litter pick-up, weeding, planting, etc.).
    • Garbage collection and disposal.
    • Fabrication and/or repair of benches, fencing, signs and other facility and ground assets.
    • Basic carpentry under supervision.
    • Trail, parking lot, and property boundary inspection and maintenance.
  • Perform the safe operation of hand tools and power tools.
  • Perform the safe operation of hand-held, walk behind and ride on landscaping equipment.
  • Perform the safe operation of vehicles and equipment such as utility vehicles, trailers, and fleet vehicles.
  • Engage with all visitors in a pleasant and helpful manner to provide exceptional visitor experiences.
  • Provide general guidance and resolve conflict as required/where possible.
  • Communicate rules and regulations to visitors when visitors are not adhering to rules and regulations.
  • Maintain and complete accurate records as required, including but not limited to inspection and maintenance records, incidents, accidents, and occurrences. 
What will you need to succeed: 
Education (degree/diploma/certifications)           

  • High school diploma is an asset.
  • Active and current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate is considered an asset.
  • Previous training on maintenance and grounds equipment/tools is considered an asset.
  • Education in park management, trail management, planning, environmental science, environmental technology, resource management, geography, engineering or related discipline is considered an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience in general maintenance, land management, construction, agriculture or commercial landscaping.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

  • Strong health and safety aptitude.
  • Ability to reliably carry out work in remote and difficult terrain and inclement weather for extended periods.
  • Experience handling and operation of small equipment and hand tools is an asset.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps.
  • Ability to multi-task and perform duties in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and courtesy.
  • Ability to manage conflicts and utilize de-escalation skills to resolve conflict situations.
  • Basic computer proficiency in MS Office suite including online software such as MS teams, WebEx, and SharePoint.
  • Experience with GIS (Esri ArcMap, ArcGIS Collector), collecting field data and using handheld GPS devices is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario Class G2 driver’s license in good standing.
  • Required to lift or carry objects that could weigh up to 50 pounds.
